Bangkok Post Breaking News: "Paradorn improves record with Basel win"

Basel (dpa) - Paradorn Srichaphan edged closer to break-even tennis this season,
improving his record to 28 wins and 30 losses with a 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (7-4)
opening win over German Benjamin Becker at the Davidoff Swiss Indoors Tuesday.

Top-ranked Federer dismisses Becker in 2

TOKYO — Roger Federer’s shin is still sore after a run-in with a bedpost this week, but he was fit enough to provide Benjamin Becker with a nightmare encounter of his own Saturday in the Japan Open tennis semifinals. Federer, the world’s top-ranked player, needed only an hour to beat the former Baylor all-American, 6-3, 6-4, dominating every aspect of the game to extend his hard-court record this year to 48-2.

"Benjamin Becker and Jiri Novak took the court for the last match of the Day 4 schedule and Becker emerged a 6-3, 3-6, 7-6(4) winner at 3.24 a.m after having saved one match point while serving at 5-6 in the third set. It is the latest finish to a match in ATP history.

Previously, the latest time a match finished was at 3.21 a.m. In that match at Philadelphia in 1990, Pete Sampras and Jim Courier lost a doubles match 6-4, 6-2 to Paul Chamberlin and Tim Wilkison."
